Maryam Bechtel, CISO, AGL

Maryam is an Cyber Security Executive, specialised in strategy and operations. Her career has consisted of two phases: ten years of consulting with Deutsche Telekom and Deloitte, working with C-levels and executives in large international companies to define an overarching and achievable cyber security strategy. Her consulting engagements led her to gain industry wide experience across various cyber security domains in multiple countries such as Germany, UK, USA and Australia.

In recent years, as a hands-on leader, managing security operations, her focus has been to build a high performing team who manage and enhance a wide portfolio of centralised security tools (40+ platforms) and services.

Daryl Pereira, APAC CISO, Director, Office of the CISO, Google Cloud APAC

Daryl partners with Google’s clients across Singapore, Australia, India, and the South-East Asia region focusing on Financial Services, Government, and Healthcare sectors. Daryl provides executive sponsorship and guidance to the Board of Directors, C-suite and technology leaders to help them navigate cyber security, tech risk and regulatory challenges throughout the Cloud adoption lifecycle. 

Daryl was previously the founding Partner & Head of the Cyber Security Consulting practice at KPMG Singapore; worked in investment banking IT with Westpac and was the global lead for Deutsche Bank’s GBIT Program Management Office overseeing a €700 million portfolio of projects. Before joining the banking sector, Daryl worked in the Public Service sector as a Consultant to the Australian Government. 

Keith Howard, Group CISO, Commonwealth Bank of Australia

Keith Howard was appointed Chief Information and Security Officer for Commonwealth Bank in 2019 where he leads the Cyber division for the Group (Including Commonwealth Bank and Bankwest), responsible for keeping the Group and its customer information safe and secure.

Prior to this appointment, Keith led large cross-functional teams delivering transformational change such as the successful SAP upgrade and previously led the Group’s Customer Engagement Platform delivering powerful customer experiences using machine learning.

Before joining Commonwealth Bank in 2015, Keith delivered technology transformation programmes and managed global teams across multiple industries including petroleum, transport and software, having lived in both the UK and Asia prior to moving to Australia.

Stephen Scheeler, The Digital CEO (Former CEO of Facebook ANZ)

Stephen is the former Facebook CEO for Australia and New Zealand, where he guided Facebook’s unprecedented rise from quirky Silicon Valley start up to media and technology titan.

Working with Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg and Facebook’s Silicon Valley leaders, his tenure at Facebook saw the Australia and New Zealand business – including Instagram, Messenger, Whatsapp and Oculus – grow to become one of the most successful Facebook markets in the world.

Stephen has served in senior executive roles at global leaders Westfield and Inchcape, and at Australian consumer products giant, Lion. Today – as founder of global advisory The Digital CEO, Senior Advisor to McKinsey & Company – he partners with the CEOs and boards of some of the world’s leading companies to help them build world-beating strategies, capabilities, culture and leadership. Jonathan Dean, CISO, Australian Department of Defence

Jon was appointed as Defence CISO in 2020, bringing 18 years of domain expertise to the role. Since joining Defence in 2002, Jon led Defence’s inaugural operational cyber threat intelligence capability within Chief Information Officer Group; and continues to focus on maturing the capability to 24/7 cyber operations and enhancing its ability to support Australian Defence Force operations.

He was also responsible for the delivery of a number of Cyber Defence Mission Systems to protect both Australian and US networks and military platforms; and established a world-leading international research program for Cyber Mission Assurance.

Anna Aquilina, CISO, University of Technology, Sydney

Anna has been working for over 25 years in a variety of roles, primarily with government and in national security/cyber security related areas. Her introduction to cybersecurity was in 2011 when she was in the Cyber Command in the Serious Organised Crime Agency (UK) as the UK started to take the cyber threat much more seriously. Those years were spent helping understand the cyber threat landscape more fully, engaging in disruption planning and activities and building up capability and capacity across the agencies.

She has spent a considerable amount of time in intelligence agencies, law enforcement and other various bits of government in the UK and Australia, and is really enjoying the Higher Education sector which she joined February 2021 when she joined UTS as CISO.

Dr. Louis Rosenberg, Chief Scientist, Responsible Metaverse Alliance and CEO, Unanimous A.I (USA)

Dr. Louis Rosenberg is a technology pioneer in fields of virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence. He founded Unanimous AI to amplify the intelligence of networked human groups using the biological principle of Swarm Intelligence combined with AI. The idea panned out, resulting in Swarm AI, an award-winning technology used by a wide range of organizations from Fortune 500 corporations to the United Nations.

Louis took on the role of Chief Scientist and Advisor to the Responsible Metaverse Alliance in June 2022 and has been a pioneer for the metaverse for 30+ years.

Louis began his career at Stanford University where he earned his BS, MS, and PhD degrees. Working at Air Force Research Laboratory in the early 1990’s, Louise created the Virtual Fixtures platform, the first functional augmented reality system merging the real and the virtual into a unified interactive reality.

Daniela Fernandez, Head of Information Security – AU, PayPal

With over 15 years’ experience in Information Technology, Daniela is a cyber security and analytics leader who values integrity, diversity of thought, continuous learning, sense of achievement and ensuring a healthy work/life integration. Currently Daniela is the Head of Information Security at PayPal Australia where she focuses on making security a business enabler, helping PayPal to achieve their mission to democratise financial services while ensuring that PayPal Australia delivers secure products to customers and meets local regulatory requirements.

Before that, Daniela was Director of Cyber Risk and Strategy. Prior to Deloitte, Daniela worked in multiple roles at CBA, across protective services, intelligence team, fraud detection and cyber security. Her last role at CBA was Executive Manager, Business Information Security Officer. Daniela is a recent winner of the CSO30 Australia 2022 awards recognising excellent in cyber security initiatives.

Sandro Bucchianeri, Group Chief Security Officer, NAB

Sandro Bucchianeri is an award-winning, globally experienced Security Executive with over 25 years of cybersecurity experience, with the last 13 years at the executive level (CISO and CSO).

In these positions, he has worked with large multi-national organisations. He has managed globally dispersed teams and successfully delivered strategic, transformational programmes virtually. Apart from his Risk & Securities and Legal & Compliance nous, he is an innovator and strategically-minded leader at heart. Sandro is innately curious and a lifelong learner. As such, he boasts a track record of continuous learning, including a list of Cybersecurity and Risk Management qualifications, including an MSc in Information Security.

Sandro is uniquely able to inspire the confidence of both technologists and Business stakeholders equally, all the while bridging the divide between CIOs and CISOs through his pragmatic approach to risk management.

Nick Eshkenazi, Chief Digital Officer, Prezzee

Nick Eshkenazi was recently appointed as the Chief Digital Officer of Prezzee having joined the company in June 2022. Prior to this role, Nick was the Chief Digital Technology Officer of WooliesX for the Woolworths Group, a role he was appointed to in 2018.

After having achieved a Master in Computer Science, Nick went on to gain more than 25 years of technology experience in retail, wholesale, transportation, manufacturing, and financial services. Over the last 15 years, Nick has held roles as CIO and CTO while leading technology departments, functions, and teams at Global Best in Class industry organizations like Costco, Fanatics, PACCAR, USAA.

He has been responsible for creating award-winning technology solutions and innovative patented products and services.

Michelle Pinheiro, Global Head of Enterprise Data Governance, ANZ

Michelle Pinheiro is a leading Australian data executive, expert and authority, setting the agenda and influencing the global evolution of data strategy and frameworks that value privacy, ethics and customers while delivering valuable business outcomes. She is known for building sustainable large-scale analytical environments and advising business leaders and industry, drawing on her extensive expertise and experience as a senior executive and manager at ASX-listed companies.

Currently as Chief Risk Officer Data + Technology, ANZ, she’s in charge of the technology and data risk strategy for the organisation, driving transparency and partnering with technology to assess opportunities and risk and helping achieve strategic goals in a responsible way, building sustainability. She’s in charge of data governance strategy and management frameworks and is ANZ’s Global GDPR Data Protection Officer, owning the global data crisis management process.

Wouter Veugelen, VP Cyber & Information Security, Santos

Wouter is a Chief Information Security Officer with 15+ years of professional experience in technology and cyber security. His industry experience spans different sectors including Financial Services, Health, and Energy, Utilities and Mining sectors both in industry roles as well as within professional services.

Wouter obtained a master of science degree in information & communication security from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Scandinavia’s largest technical university and conducted his thesis project for Microsoft, where he was involved with the integration of the Belgian electronic identity card middle-ware with Microsoft’s identity management system Windows CardSpace.

Heng Mok, Chief Information Security Officer, APAC and Japan, Zscaler

Heng is the former CISO of AGL Energy and is a practical Cyber leader who has over 20 years’ experience spanning a range of industries and cyber disciplines. Heng has worked on some of the largest transformation programs–including digital transformation–in Australia, within the financial services and energy sectors. He has written security standards for the Open Data Center Alliance and currently sits on a number of CompTIA Cybersecurity Certification committees.
